This section explains the science behind Concept2's blade design innovations.
The development of efficient blades begins with an understanding of the actual path of the blade through the water. It's not what most people think it is. Once you understand it, you’ll see why different blade designs will be most effective in different phases of the stroke. You’ll also see why the hydrodynamics have convinced us to develop a blade—the Fat2—that is most effective in the first two phases of the drive, because that’s where our analysis indicates that the most effective boat-moving work can be done.
Then there's the concept of Loading Profile—which is different for each of our blade designs. The better you understand this, the better you will be able to select the oars that will make you or your crew go the fastest—by selecting the blade that best matches your desired loading profile.
