Wayland-Weston Training Lesson Plan 1
Level: High School
30-35 kids, 3 days/week
Contact: Carey Bohrer (carey@cbsands.com)
Take an empty gym and set it up with the following:
- 21 rowing machines (ergs)
- free weights
- stability balls
- medicine balls
- bands
When the kids arrive, have them help set up the equipment.
Once equipment is set up, have the first 20 kids start warming up on the rowing machines. Have stragglers do a land warm-up with medicine balls.
Once the warm up is complete, gather everyone and stretch together in one big group.
Following stretching, split the kids into 3 teams. Each team does one long piece on the erg with a little core work/lifting twice a week. Once a week, the kids do a long lift with a shorter piece on the erg.
This plans works with 2 coaches (although it can be hectic monitoring everything!). We stay on top of the monitoring with team leaders, laminated sheets for guiding the kids through the lifting, and just plain constant instruction and reminders.
With an empty gym, a little storage space, and good organized coaching, this plan can be duplicated any place with a 3:2 ratio (kids to ergs).
